How do we translate a complex, desktop-first interface for an increasingly mobile user base?

Esslo provides 75,000+ college applicants with admissions-specific feedback to improve their essays. When looking into usage data, we found that over 40% of sessions were on mobile devices. I was tasked with redesigning Esslo's essay interface to be more accessible for these users.
